Artist Statement
I take photographs of nature, people, and everyday occurrences that I feel encapsulate the depth of the seemingly ordinary. While I use both digital and film cameras I find myself instinctively reaching for my film camera every time. When taking photos on film there is a sense of high risk equals high reward. I experience this feeling when I’m also processing the film in the darkroom. Through handling chemicals, negatives, and prints I experience a new way of moving through time and I believe that is the true magic of analogue photography. I’m drawn to the art and process of photography because it feels inherently natural to me, like a reflex I’ve been born with. Photography as an art form is what I’m truly passionate about. Having a hands-on experience with a photograph from loading the film into the camera to drying out the print makes my work feel that much more personal. My desire as an analogue photographer is to carry on the art of photography rather than it falling into the domain of industry and commerce.
